Chair's Report and AGM for 2016/17
2016/17 was another successful year for CAFAG with regard to our activities but it was a tough year financially as grant funding was harder to obtain. Because of this, we had to invest some of our reserves into keeping the Centre and its activities running and this has naturally been of great concern. However, the Trustees, staff and volunteers at CAFAG are determined to continue supporting the local community and and continuing to be a local charity that supports local needs.
Very sadly in April of last year, we lost one of most loyal supporters, Joe Spackman. Joe held the Centre very deeply in his heart and his loss has been massive. He is very fondly remembered by all of us for his dance moves, welcoming smile and singing!
Amongst the main achievements during the year has been the Youth Project which has helped almost 1000 local young people. In addition to the Fegg Hayes Nursery, we have opened the nursery at Chell Heath and these continue to develop and flourish. Lottery funding for the gym finished on the 31st March 2016 and during the lifetime of the project it attracted 675 new gym members, Cook & Eat programmes, Lifestyle Referrals, a weekly children's gym, the Lifestyle Coaches worked with local schools and sheltered housing accommodation, ran a weekly disability programme and Stop Smoking Project.
The Community Cafe continues to run five mornings a week and is staffed totally by volunteers.
The Creche is funded by Children In Need and it regularly cares for between 6 and 15 children per day.
Other projects which we successfully run are the Gardening Project, Volunteering Project, Bingo, Over 55s Luncheon Club, Baby Weighing, Internet Cafe, Walking Group and Community Library.
On behalf of the Trustees, I would like to thank every member of staff, each volunteer, all our funders and partners and all of you - especially the local community. Without you all we
